“A collection designed for the Philosophy girl’s younger sister,” explains Lorenzo Serafini, creative director of the Aeffe Group brand, ahead of its kidswear début alongside the Alberta Ferretti brand. The line will be available from Spring/Summer 2019 for girls from 0 to 12 years
What will the Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini girl’s line be like?
It will complement my Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini line. I’ve taken its themes, fabrics, prints and wearability and turned them into a collection designed for the Philosophy girl’s younger sister. I like to think these two collections are linked like sisters rather than a mother/daughter relationship.
How would you define it in three words?
Happy, fun, romantic.
What will the key pieces be?
Dresses and knitwear are always the pieces I enjoy creating the most. The same goes for the kids line: for this first collection, I’ve spent a lot of time on these two categories. For example, I’ve created a light, white tiered dress in cotton and lace.
Which piece is your favourite?
I’ve made a MiniMe version of an embroidered cape with little English roses, which I find irresistible.
How did you approach the kidswear world? What differences are there between designing for children and for adults?
One of my priorities when I’m designing is freedom of movement and that goes for both women and girls. For Kidswear, this freedom is not a characteristic of my fashion but a real requirement because children want their clothes to be comfortable and practical.
What about the MiniMe trend that’s so popular right now?
It’s totally in line with my creative spirit. I should say, though, that children look best when they are dressed like kids. I’m in favour of MiniMe, but I’m fully aware that certain garments and fits are just for adults. Kidswear should never just be a carbon copy of womenswear.
Where will we be able to buy the collection?
The Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini Kids collection will be distributed by Gimel in the best multi-brand and department stores around the world.
