Celebrity Pets

Elizabeth Taylor at the entrance of Villa Fiorentina in Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat with her inseparable miniature poodles, Natalie Wood and Warren Beatty at the Carlton Hotel in Cannes, Brigitte Bardot in a room at the Negresco in Nice, playing with her four-legged friend, Guapa and lying on the bed behind her, the French film-maker Roger Vadim. And then Pablo Picasso with his basset hound Ma Jolie at the luxury ‘La California’ villa in Cannes, and Hjordis Tersmeden, wife of the famous British actor David Niven, in her Alfa Romeo, taking a relaxing day off with her Afghan hound at Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat.

This was the rigorously pet friendly French Riviera of the fifties and sixties immortalised in black and white by the photo-reporter Edward Queen and which can be seen in the book Celebrities’ Pets, published by teNeues.
